Shaping the Future of Work with Human-Centered AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has permeated our daily lives, ranging from our homes and workplaces to classrooms at universities. However, this rapidly evolving AI often fails to operate seamlessly in real-world settings. This is because, despite AIs significant technical advancements, we often overlook the human, organizational, and societal factors that impede its adoption. To address this gap, my research investigates the burdens and challenges users face at the individual level, the tensions that emerge at the stakeholder level, and the interactional breakdowns that occur at the societal level. In this workshop, I will present my findings from two high-stakes AI use cases: 1) AI in work performance evaluations and 2) a conversational agent for documenting and reporting sexual assault survivors cases. Ultimately, I aim to illustrate sociotechnical and macroscopic insights for designing ethical and responsible AI to improve its utility in our society.
