Bio
Dr. Michelle Sander is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University and an affiliated faculty with the Biomedical Engineering Department and the Materials Science and Engineering Division. She is a member of the BU Photonics Center, the Center for Neurophotonics and the BU Nanotechnology Center. She received her PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on designing novel instrumentation platforms for label-free chemical imaging and infrared nerve modulation. She is further interested in designing novel ultrafast fiber lasers extending into emerging wavelength regimes and studying their real-time nonlinear dynamics.
Dr. Sander received an AFOSR Young Investigator Award and an NSF CAREER Award. She is involved in multiple conference committees, e.g. the Steering Committee for the CLEO conference, and served on the IEEE Photonics Society Board of Governors (2020 – 2022) as well as an Optica Ambassador (2017).
